How to Use This Checklist
Don't try to do everything at once. Pick a section, work through it, then move to the next.
Start with the essentials. If you haven't done Level 1, don't worry about Level 3.
Some things are ongoing. Reviews, posting, and engagement aren't one-time tasks.
Revisit periodically. Things change. Hours change, services change, websites need updating.
A Realistic Timeline
Week 1-2: Complete Google Business Profile essentials
Week 3-4: Check website basics, claim other major listings
Month 2: Set up review system, start posting regularly
Month 3+: Work through Level 2 and 3 items gradually
Ongoing: Maintain what you've built, post regularly, respond to reviews
Common Questions
Do I need to do ALL of this? No. Do the essentials well first. Many businesses succeed with just Level 1 done right.
How long until I see results? Local SEO changes aren't instant. Give it 2-3 months of consistent effort to see movement.
Should I hire someone? You can do most of this yourself. If you're too busy, a local marketing person can help, but make sure they explain what they're doing.
What matters most? Google Business Profile, reviews, and consistency. If you nail those three, you're ahead of most competitors.
The Bottom Line
Local SEO is really about:
- Making sure Google knows who you are, where you are, and what you do
- Building trust through reviews and consistency
- Staying active and engaged
Work through this checklist at your own pace. Even doing half of it puts you ahead of businesses doing nothing.
